The Feline Urinary Tract Disease in Abyssinian cats is the inability to control the bladder muscles. This is usually due to improper nerve function from a spinal defect. Urinary defect is rare in cats so if you notice that your cat is urinating in improper locations. It may be suffering from FLUTD and is trying to get you to notice.
Signs and Symptoms of Feline Urinary Tract Disease
Watch out for any signs of abnormal urination such as urinating on a tile floor, bathtub or any other cool surface. Some early symptoms also include a blood in the urine; small amount or no urine at all as well as unusual crying in the litter box.
Cats and kittens that are previously diagnosed with urinary tract infection, bladder stones are also prone to Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease.
If your cat demonstrates any of these symptoms, bring it to a veterinarian right away.
This can become an emergency within only a few hours. The inability to urinate is painful and quickly fatal, especially for male cats. If its urethra is blocked with stones or crystals, the urine will be blocked.
An important reminder to prevent such disease is to always bring your cat to a clinic for a regular urinalysis testing.
This test allows us to check for signs of infection, kidney disease, crystals in the urine, and even diabetes.
You can also perform other tests such as X-rays and ultrasounds. It can also help detect the presence of stones in the bladder or kidneys.
If you brought your pet early to the vet, lower urinary tract disease can be controlled with medications and special diets.
