How to Be a Responsible Pygmy Leaf Pet Owner

Pygmy chameleons are famous for their endearing attributes that you have to see to believe. These tiny creatures are delightfully cute. They are known by reptile enthusiasts to possess social skills and affection. They are ruled out that they are a type of pet that will suit a beginner the best. The pygmy leaf are creatures that may not be as colorful as other species of chameleon, but they still hold their unique charm.

There are several varieties of pygmy leaf , and each of these comes with its own special coloration as well as patterns. The basic body hue of them ranges from light brown to gray and depending on the type, you’ll see stripes of brow, green and red, and they are fascinatingly vivid. One that they all have in common regardless of the different variations is their tails. This is because pygmy chameleons often stay in forest play, not needing long curly tails found in other species of chameleon. Rather, they have short, truncated tails. Their size ranges from three to three and a half inches long, including tails. Yes, they are cute, tiny, little bundles of joy. 

The typical lifespan of these distinct chameleons is between one and three years, considering great care and optimum habitat. The little reptiles really are not known for longevity. They may not be your typical pet who will promise a very long companionship, but there are a number of things about them that will open the two of you to a strong bond. 

Reminders When Keeping a Pygmy Leaf

Reminder #1

Because they hold very little size, a five-gallon tank is suitable for their small body. If you plan on housing more than one, then just gradually add five more gallons per each of them. They are not very much of a climber and would prefer plenty of horizontal space. This is especially significant as storing more than one of them would like each established area. 

The lid must be sturdy as they at times can be escape artists and might cause chaos from cats, kids dogs; and other dangers. Whether fake or real, the decorations must mimic their natural environment for them to be comfortable. This will give them a sense of belonging, as well as the ability to hide and feel secure. For their substrate, two to four-inch bedding of coconut will do. Furthermore, add some small sticks, for them to enjoy climbing on.

The first rule of thumb is the food you’ll give to your pygmy leaf should never exceed the width of its head. They are insectivores and prefer live insects such as small crickets, fruit flies as well as silkworms. The live insects must feast on nutritious items and must be dusted with powdered calcium and vitamin supplements. Feeding time occurs once every morning, for optimum digestion. Their water needs occur in mist, they love to drink water droplets. You are to be reminded to mist the enclosure with non-chlorinated water.

One thing all pygmy leaf have, it’s their nice, appealing, friendly demeanor. Its easy-going disposition makes them popular, and it will not get aggressive, cold, angry; and possibly detach from you when you are handling them. While yes, they are social butterflies, they do not enjoy handling for long periods of time. Thus, the best thing you can do is just let them live as harmonious and at ease as possible, in the natural; and comfortable environment you created for them.

Physical bond between you too is advisable to occur every couple of weeks or so, and doing this; you are to pick them up gently and be very cautious not to drop them. Remember, your exotic pet will thrive and be at its happiest basking, hiding, and climbing in peace.

Your very own pygmy chameleon, just as all other pets there, can get sick. That is why it is crucial that you foster a good relationship with your veterinarian. These little color-adapting creatures can develop painful mouth sores that can be caused by bacterial infection; guidance from a trusted vet will heal them. 

Sometimes, they can be bitten by prey, or scratch themselves from a branch, and effectively treating this allows a doctor’s appointment. If you notice that your chameleon is lethargic, gasping for breath; or in an unusual dark color, and maybe have lost appetite, take them to the vet right away. These creatures can get very sick, very quickly; that is why it is really a must that you are proactive in conducting visual health assessments, on a daily basis.

They are not labeled small but terrible for no reason. Pygmy leaf definitely is worth petting, knowing how relatively easy and guaranteed fulfilling it is. Of course, always buy and raise with the genuine intent of wanting to.
