Though many so-called “harmful foods” like fresh fruits and whole grain bread can be good for your canary, many are not. Avoid feeding your canary dairy products, sugary foods, salty foods, raw potato, beans, and canned foods. It is also important to note that while certain vegetables like lettuce and cabbage are not necessarily bad for your canary bird, they are very high in water and offer relatively little in the way of nutritional value. There are also some foods that are considered toxic or harmful for canaries – you will find them listed here below:

  • Asparagus
  • Avocado
  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine
  • Chocolate
  • Cocoa
  • Dried Beans
  • Eggplant
  • Fruit Pits
  • Fruit Seeds
  • Poultry Feed
  • Raw Egg
  • Rhubarb
  • Tobacco
  • Tomato
  • Milk
  • Moldy Foods
  • Mushrooms

**It is also important to note that even safe foods need to be clean and free from mold. Do not feed your canary anything that is damp, moldy, or anything less than fresh.
