The best way to ensure that your Weimaraner’s unique nutritional needs are met is to choose a high-quality dry dog food that is formulated for large-breed puppies. You can feed your puppy this formula as recommended until he reaches about 80% of his projected adult size. Remember, male Weimaraners grow a little larger than females, so you will need to keep this in mind – your vet may be able to give you some idea of your puppy’s projected adult size. Once your puppy reaches 80% of his adult size, switch him over to a high-quality dry dog food that is formulated for large-breed adult dogs.

Once you’ve chosen a healthy diet for your Weimaraner dog you need to know how much and how often to feed him. Because different dog food products have different calorie content you should follow the feeding instructions on the label as a starting point. Most dog food labels provide feeding instructions by weight, so make sure you know how much your puppy weighs. It is also important to remember that these are feeding suggestions – you might have to alter the ration for your dog. If your Weimaraner starts to gain weight, decrease his daily ration a little. If he loses weight, increase it a little bit.

In addition to knowing how much to feed your Weimaraner you also need to think about how often to feed him. Most dog owners recommend feeding your dog twice a day. Puppies need a lot of energy to fuel their growth and development, however, so you may want to divide his daily portion over three small meals. As your Weimaraner puppy is growing you can also go the route of feeding him freely, allowing him to eat as much as he wants. If he starts to grow too quickly, however, you may have to start portioning out his meals. Once he reaches full size, though, you should start rationing his food to make sure he doesn’t become overweight.
