Place all of your food in tightly lidded containers and store them in the cupboard or pantry.

Make sure your trashcan has a tight-fitting lid and store your garbage out of your puppy’s reach.

Pick up small objects from the floor and put them away; this includes things like toys, rubber bands, pieces of string, etc.

Store all of your medications (prescription and over-the-counter) safely in a medicine cabinet.

Keep all of your cleaning supplies stored away where your puppy can’t get into them; this includes supplies kept in the garage.

Remove any toxic houseplants from your home or move your plants so they are well out of your puppy’s reach.

Check to make sure none of the plants on your property are toxic to dogs; if they are, remove them or fence them off so your puppy can’t get into them.

Cover any open bodies of water that could pose a drowning hazard for your puppy; this includes toilets, sinks, ponds, pools, and more.

Make sure all of the outlets in your home are protected by plastic covers.

Tie up the cords for your blinds as well as electric cords so your puppy can’t chew on them.

These are just a few of the many things you should do to keep your puppy safe at home; and keep your home intact! After going through the items on this list, walk around your house and view things from your puppy’s eyes; remove anything that he might be tempted to chew on or play with that could be harmful.
